Hope
What do we know about hope—we who can purchase most anything we want. We who have good doctors and good food and good housing. We who have job opportunities, good schools, friends, interesting lives.
What do we even mean when we use the word hope? I hope you have a good time. I hope our team wins. I hope you get a good report from your doctor.
Who fulfills what you hope for?
Ministering in prison has been for me a graduate course in hope. Many of the men in white* have lost everything. They have hurt people badly, broken promises galore, faced years of incarceration with poor future prospects.
Some of my brothers in white, the ones who are changing me, have stood on the promises of God, have experienced the truthfulness of God’s promises and radiate hope.
*In Texas prisons, all imnates wear white.
