Funny where saying “yes” will take you. I said “yes” to attending a Christian retreat in prison and found myself immersed in kindness and love but also in loneliness and estrangement. So, I said “yes” to attending Prayer and Share with men in white and to writing them letters and found myself with rich personal relationships. In response to a man in white who wanted more time with me, I said “yes” to becoming a mentor going into the Torres Unit on a regular basis and spending an hour with each man I mentored. I learned that my sole role as a mentor was to love the men in white. I said “yes” to remaining in close contact with brothers after they were released from prison and received in return kindness that melts one’s heart.

All of us are granted “yes” opportunities. When taken, they lead to parts unknown, unimagined even—places for adventure, for growth, for healing, for meaning.

 To a beautiful meadow overflowing with wildflowers!
